One day last week I thought I’d experiment with taking some handheld shots in very low light; the London Underground seemed as good a place as any to start.

These are my final shots from this year’s London Marathon. It’s been really difficult to choose which images to post; I’ve been posting two or three a day just to get through them, but will go back to one a day from now on.
This is a compilation of 4 images that were all taken at about mile 23 on the Embankment.

This shot was also taken about two miles from the end of the race, at last Sunday’s 2007 Flora London Marathon.

These three girls were nearing the end of the race (about mile 24) when I took this shot on the Embankment near Blackfriars. They looked like they had been through a lot together.

This shows piles of discarded Lucozade cartons towards the end of the day. They were piled up by the side on the road on Victoria Embankment, just before the entrance to a tunnel. I like the colours of the cartons against the dark background of the tunnel.

This is the second of my ‘motion blur’ Marathon experiments.

I tried experimenting with some longer shutter speeds at the Marathon on Sunday, to try to achieve some motion blur effects. I’ve never really tried this before and was reasonably pleased with the results. This is the first of two of the resulting images; I like the colours in this one.

I know this won’t be everyone’s favourite image, but the simplicity really appeals to me, so I decided to post it anyway. Virtually everybody at the race had their name on their vest to encourage spectators to cheer them on.

This was shot at Greenwich, early on in the race (about mile 7). She seemed anxious not to miss somebody she knew run by.

The first of two shots today showing spectators at the London Marathon — this very vocal supporter was watching the race at mile 24, near Blackfriars.

A different take on the shot I posted earlier. I think it would have looked better if I could have got somebody wearing something a bit brighter.

More from the London Marathon. I like the graphic element that the two arrows provide, and the fact that the two runners are wearing a nice bright yellow — pity I almost cut the head off of one of them.

Another runner from yesterday’s 2007 London Marathon, taken around mile 23 near London Bridge. To the left you can see a big bag of discarded water bottles.
This is my favourite of the 300 or so (!) images I took yesterday, closely followed by the image I posted yesterday.

I spent today at the London Marathon; this shot shows the blues lines that are marked throughout the course to guide the runners. I’ll post more images during the week once I have had a chance to sort through them properly.

Actually I don’t think the 3rd girl along is a redhead, so she’s kind of spoiled my image title. This was taken in Regents Park, London, a couple of weeks ago.

This is also on Thorpe Bay seafront near Southend… I liked the untidy composition formed by the green cross, rubber ring, brickwork and wood.

I was drawn to the stark colours and typography on this For Sale sign. This is the last of my beach huts for now; maybe I’ll come back to them in the future.

One evening last week I went down to the rows of beach huts at Thorpe Bay, near Southend-on-Sea, Essex. I liked the abstract patterns formed by close-up detail from some of them.
