The National Gallery in London is currently promoting itself by hanging real-size reproductions of 44 of its paintings around the West End (the ‘Grand Tour‘). This one, Jan van Eyck’s The Arnolfini Portrait (1434) is in Wardour Street.
This is the first in another of my mini-series…

On the Euston Road, central London.

I’ve not attempted many portraits so far, although I’d like to start taking a few more in the future. This is my friend Sophie, taken at Beautiful Days last weekend; I like the festival feel to it.

Halfway through a roll of film, the back of my camera accidentally flipped open and exposed some of the film. It ruined a few frames, but I thought it actually made for quite an interesting shot here… it’s turned a straightforward silhouette of a wicker man into a kind of blue/black/orange graphic image.

A ‘Mutoid Waste Co’ sculpture from the Beautiful Days festival last weekend. It reminds me of the green VW taxis in Mexico City.

This is Catherine Feeny, playing at the Beautiful Days festival near Exeter, Devon, last weekend.

Cleveland Street, central London. The man is not quite in focus but I think it works here (and on this previous shot). Next time I try a shot like this though, I’ll experiment with trying to get the person sharper.

The final shots from my ‘Lake District’ mini-series.

More ironically-named housing; nowhere near Keswick.

Bottom: 1/100sec, f/8, focal length 70mm

This is the first of a little mini-project I did… visiting the Lake District in my lunch hour. These are both part of a large housing estate in north London — couldn’t be more different from the real thing!

The last of my series of shots taken at my local tattoo studio (for now). Thanks to everyone there for letting me take pictures.
Canon 400D, 1/80sec, f/2.8, ISO 400, focal length 50mm

More tattooing… same subject as the shot I posted two days ago, but with a much wider angle.
Canon 400D, 1/20sec, f/4, ISO 400, focal length 10mm

Another tattoo-in-progress shot; I used a large aperture so I could focus on the actual tattoo.
Canon 400D, 1/125sec, f/1.8, ISO 200, focal length 50mm

Recently I spent an hour or two at a local tattoo studio, taking shots whilst the tattoo artists worked. This is my favourite of the images I got. The studio is Shamanics in Westcliff-on-Sea.

One from the archives; this was taken on an unusually clear November day last year. It’s a photographer with his tripod, taking a long exposure along the Millennium Bridge towards St Paul’s. I like the way his silhouette is reflected on either side.
